One of those days!

We all have them! It would be impossible for me to describe what “one of those days” looks like! Some would say, Monday is “one of those days”, just because of it’s proximity to the weekend. Others may say it is “one of those days” when the kids are in that special “I’m bored” mood and nothing you do will appease them. And other may say it is “one of those days” when everything seems to be going wrong. Pause for a moment and think of when you last had “one of those days” and I think we could all nod our heads in agreement and say…”I know what you mean!”

We have officially begun the Lenten season, that time of reflection before Easter. It is a time in which we look at our lives and reflect on whose we are and how we respond to “one of those days”. I look back over the past year and think of the times when I was having “one of those days” and I ask myself, “Could I have handled myself better than I did?” If we all asked ourselves the same question, the answer shouldn’t be a surprise, “Yes!” The next questions should be; what could have we done differently or better yet, what will we do different the next time “one of those days” enters our lives.

It seems when “one of those days” enters, it is at the most inopportune time! Or does it really? When “one of those days” usually comes, it is when I am wrestling to control everything. The more I fight to maintain some control, the worse “one of those days” becomes. It is then I need to remember the words of Jesus Paul spoke to the Corinthians, But he [Jesus] said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

As we, walk through this Lenten season to Easter morning. The scripture bears witness to Jesus’ walk to the Cross. He had plenty of opportunities to have “one of those days”, but chose instead to pray through those days. In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus prayed “Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39b) He was certainly going to have “one of those days”, but He stayed the course, following His Father’s will and went to the cross on “one of those days”.

Friends, as you encounter “one of those days” in your life, take a moment, collect your thoughts and meditate on God’ Word. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) It is my prayer that none of us should experience another “one of those days”, but we will. However, remember this, Jesus died on “one of those days” and three days later rose from the grave on “one of those days”; and in this we all can rejoice, for just as we suffer through “one of those days” in Christ, so to we will rejoice when we who are in Christ will be raised on “ONE OF THOSE DAYS!”
